Price & Where I Got It: Php 500 from a Shopee seller

Hi, guys! Today's review will focus on this local Philippine product called Navarro's Bleach. This is another popular product on Shopee PH (store app) and I can't resist checking it out! I mean, look at all this drastic BEFORE and AFTER photos on the brand's facebook page. Shocking, right?

Navarro's Bleach is formulated by Ms. Mary Ann Labajanan, a businesswoman from Davao City. She is actually the person on the front sticker label. Check out the facebook page I linked above and you'll understand when I say she's a walking advertisement. Just look at her milky porcelain skin!

Mind you, I'm not really after ghost-white pale skin but I totally need something to even out my skin tone. I'm like a walking gradient. A calico cat. My face is the darkest part of my body, second to my feet. My arms are another color while my legs/torso are the lightest. It's difficult to get a matching foundation shade because if they match my neck, it would be way too light and if they match my face, the shade would be too dark. The struggle 😂

About Navarro's Bleach

The product claims to have 12 Benefits, namely: [1] for acne [2] for pekas (freckles) [3] for pimples [4] for dark skin [5] for bikini line [6] for stretchmarks [7] for fading old scars [8] for instant whitening [9] for preventing body odor [10] for underarm whitening [11] for mosquito insect bites and [12] for whiteheads and blackheads.

I have to say the benefits are redundant because basically, this is a skin bleach for whitening purposes. Half the claims fall under whitening/lightening! Anyway, some claims trigger a lot of questions (example: How will this help acne? How will this even prevent body odor?, etc) but let's take a look at the disclosed ingredients.

Contains:
Lasonia Inermis, Dehydrogen Dioxide, Glutathione and Fragrance

I wish they included the full ingredients instead of just the four mentioned above. If you get a negative reaction, it will be hard to pinpoint what is causing it exactly.

From a quick google search, Lasonia Inermis is henna while Dehydrogen Dioxide is hydrogen peroxide. Apparently, mixing both can act as a fast and effective whitening agent for the skin. There's even homemade recipes out there in the internet! 😬 Glutathione is, of course, a well-known antioxidant with whitening as one of its side effects.

The product comes inside a plastic container. Inside are two powder packets, two bottles of liquid solution plus an instruction leaflet.

My Experience

The instructions say to pour 1 pack of powder and 1 bottle of liquid into a plastic container. Mix and stir until you get a puffy and creamy consistency.

I mixed both in this small plastic container.

As you can see, both the powder and solution fit into the container I used with extra space on top! However, you MUST use a bigger container (like the one this came with) because the mixture expanded TWICE in size! It got puffier and moussier in texture after a few hours. See pic below. It has a pleasant barely there scent.

Disaster! Make sure to use a bigger container!

I saw video tutorials saying you should mix this in the morning and use it by the evening. If you use it immediately after mixing, it would feel itchy. Don't worry about spoilage because it can be kept for 2-3 days.

I'm curious so I patch tested it on my hand immediately after mixing. I left it on for about 20 minutes. As expected, it felt really itchy. I didn't scratch it but after washing it off, my skin was red from irritation. I knew it would be itchy so I'm taking that in stride but what I'm disappointed about was there's no visible lightening results? Even after the redness subsided, there was literally no difference.


I tried testing it again after a few hours. This time on a part of my arm. The texture of the bleach has changed and it was moussier and creamier than when freshly mixed. I left it on for 30 minutes then rinsed it off.

It may look like my skin has lightened but that's because the lighting has changed.

This time, I did not experience any itchiness. However, like before, there was literally no change. See the pics above. It was quite a letdown.

I still tried to give this a chance because what if the result is cumulative? Maybe after one week the results will show up. I continued using the rest of Navarro's Bleach. I applied it only on my face and arms since that's the parts I want to even out.

powder residue stuck to my skin

On the second night, I thought it finally worked. My skin actually looked fairer after rinsing the bleach off. However, when the moisture dried, I could clearly see that it was just streaks of white powder left by the product.

This residue is very difficult to remove. Whenever I rinse the bleach, I also use soap to make sure there is no bleach left on my skin. When wet, this white residue is not noticeable (it does not feel sticky or anything) but after my skin dries, you can clearly see it's still there. I tried soaping it again but it's not budging. I finally got rid of it after scrubbing it off with a loofah.

The whole pack lasted 5 days for me and I only used it on my face and arms. So... did it work?

Will I Repurchase/Recommend This Product?

Because of my experience, NO, I can't recommend this product.

I didn't expect to get very pale skin like the Before & After testimonies but I did expect to get at least 1 or 2 shades lighter. This is bleach after all. However, this did not deliver its promises.

Perhaps I'll see better results if I continue using it for a longer period (like, say one month) but one box costs 500 PHP and it only lasted for 5 days. That is too expensive to maintain plus I didn't see results anyway. I won't repurchase and will gladly use my cheap yet effective kojic soaps instead.
