Haven't heard about or tried Dermal Essence before but I saw the brand at BeautyMNL and my curiosity was sufficiently piqued.

Dermal is a Korean brand that offers sheet masks in 36 different variants! Each mask has a high concentration of one main active ingredient to target whatever problem you may have. Aside from the main ingredient, every sheet mask contains collagen essence to hydrate and nourish skin for a healthier, brighter complexion.

Only 15 variants are available at BeautyMNL as of now and out of those, I got a couple each of Snail, Bee Venom, White, Green Tea and of course, Syn-ake! Watch out for my upcoming reviews of the rest. :)

About The Product

The mask claims to make the skin firmer and tighter. The main ingredient is Syn-ake (Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate) and it's supposed to keep the skin smooth and elastic while preventing wrinkles.

I looked it up and found out it's a synthetic neuropeptide believed to block the body's uptake of Na+. This causes the facial muscles to relax and prevent the formation of expression lines (wrinkles). It's supposed to mimic the effects of Walgerin 1, a peptide found in snake venom known for its muscle-relaxing properties. Neat!
The back of the mask has Korean, English and Japanese translations on it.
Ingredients:
Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Beta-Glucan, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Polysorbate 80, Disodium EDTA, Xanthan Gum, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance (Cosdna Analysis here)

Isn't it great when you find the notable ingredients within the first 10 of the list? Syn-ake is in the 4th spot while collagen is 6th in the list. I really do dislike when a product hypes an ingredient only to find out it's at the very last.

According to the analysis, the ingredients are mostly moisturizers. Tocopheryl Acetate, Polysorbate 80, Methylparaben and Phenoxyethanol has a moderate Safety Rating of 3-4. Better check and not use if you are sensitive or allergic to any of the ingredients.

My Experience


The sheet mask has eye flaps and strategic slits to accommodate your face shape. It even has one for the nose! The fit is great for me. It ended very close to my hairline, right beside my ears and just below my chin.

I didn't put the mask in the fridge but it's cooling! It was soaked with just the right amount of essence. It's not dripping wet and there's only a few extra drops left in the pack after I take it out. Regarding the essence, it is clear and thick and feels slightly tacky.

The mask has added fragrance but I think the scent is barely there and doesn't smell unpleasant. It's not really noticeable once you put it on your face anyway.

The sheet mask is made with a thick material that won't tear apart easily. However, I think it's too thick? At first, the mask clung to my skin well. I wanted to leave it on for more than 15 minutes but because of the material, it dried fast. Less than 10 minutes in and the edges of the mask were already falling off.


Results

The essence dries with no sticky feeling. After being fully absorbed, my skin is moisturized and felt so smooth, soft and supple. I initially thought the mask didn't work as it should because while my skin is indeed hydrated, it doesn't feel tight. I mean, it's supposed to be a firming mask, right?

Well, are you like me who rubs the sheet mask all over (neck, arms, elbows, etc) after taking it off? I was pleasantly surprised the next morning because my elbow skin is so much plumper! There are still elbow wrinkles but most of the lines were smoothed and filled out, if that makes sense. This effect lasted for almost two days and it's back to wrinkly elbows again. 😂

I haven't really noticed the firming effect on my face but it does work. My elbows are proof. 😂

Will I Repurchase?

Yes. I don't fancy the material used but I like the essence. I've used this twice and the result is soft and smooth plump skin every time. The price is reasonable too; it's within the average range for sheet masks.

I think people wanting to get rid of wrinkles (without needles) will benefit from this the most. However, since this is just a mask, keep in mind that the results will only be temporary.
