Active White Bleaching Soap Review
WHAT: Active White Bleaching Soap Skin Whitener with Glutathione, 135g
PRICE & WHERE: 89 PHP at Watson's Ph
I love going outside, participating in hikes or generally just traipsing about being one with nature. Even though I wear sunscreens, I still get tan especially on my arms and face resulting in uneven skin tone all over my body. My solution? Good old whitening soaps!

I decided to purchase Active White Bleaching Soap because it looks the most potent among the other whitening soaps in Watson's. Did it work? Read on to find out!

About the Product

Active White Bleaching Soap Review
I cut the soap in half just in case it melts easily
Product Description:
A great soap for dark and discolored skin. Target problem spots and combat hyperpigmentation with this special intense whitening soap that combines a bleaching formula with glutathione. Have smooth and fair skin that glows.

Ingredients:
Coconut oil, Caustic Soda, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Silicate, Castor Oil, Cocomide DEA, Scent, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Milk Extract, Phenoxythanol, L-Glutathione, Beta Arbutin, De-Ionized Water

The soap uses L-Glutathione as its main selling point but looking at the ingredient list, it also contains other effective whitening ingredients. Alpha hydroxy acid (AHA like glycolic, lactic, and citric acid) is great for skin renewal while milk and arbutin have proven whitening benefits too.

My Experience

The soap has a yellowish tinge with lavender swirls in it. It is almost unscented since the added fragrance is super mild. The soap is very bubbly and does not melt easily. The whole bar lasted two months of daily usage for me!

When using whitening soaps, I usually let the lather stay on my skin for around two to five minutes. It didn't sting the whole time I was using it even if I go beyond my self-imposed limits. After rinsing the bubbles off, my skin feels squeaky clean.

Downside: the soap is super drying for me. I chalk it to the AHA which facilitates skin rejuvenation. Sure enough, in less than a week, I was micropeeling. Tip: use a moisturizing lotion for hydration plus sunscreen to protect the new skin!

Active White Bleaching Soap Review
Before and After. Two months apart.
Same camera settings but lighting is a bit different (noon vs 3pm light).
The soap lasted two months of daily use and after one bar, I still think I am tan! Haha. However, I do think my skin has lightened a lot. I don't look as dark and the pinkish gray cast is not there anymore.

Verdict

I still have a lot of soaps in my stash so I probably won't be repurchasing but I think this is an effective whitening soap with a very reasonable price. It's highly-drying so it's probably not for those with dry or sensitive skin. Make sure to pamper your skin afterwards!

Alada Soap Review
What: Alada Soap, 160g
Price & Where: 300 PHP at @mariasonlineshop
Hi, guys! Here's my review of the popular Thai beauty soap called Alada!

I got the soap as a freebie from @mariasonlineshop (Shopee link) when I spent a certain amount during a Shopee promotion. Depending on where you buy it, the soap normally retails about 300-500 PHP. So pricey! I've finished the whole bar already so read on to see if it worked for me!

About the Product

ALADA claims to remove acne, freckles and pimples for clearer and finer skin complexion. It promises to nourish, moisturize and whiten your skin, keeping it smooth and young looking.

I can't find the complete and full ingredients online but Alada claims that the soap is made with 100% organic ingredients. According to the product description, the soap contains Carambola extract and natural fruit acids to help reduce scarring and to remove dead skin cells. It also has White Ginger Extract which has antibacterial properties to prevent the formation of bacteria. Collagen will soften, moisturize, and brighten skin naturally. Algae Extract for protecting the skin's moisture balance and for preventing the loss of water under the skin. Lastly, it has Arbutin which inhibits the production of melanin for fairer skin.

Instructions:
For Face - Wash and rinse off.
For Body - Wash and leave for 3-5 minutes then rinse off.

Apparently because of its popularity, this soap is imitated a lot! Alada released new soap packaging to combat fakes. You should look for a holographic box with an embossed logo.

The back contains information written in Thai but thankfully, the instructions are in English. There's also a Line QR code in it and if you're wondering, it directs to the CEO's LINE account. If you have questions, I guess you can contact her directly.

The bar of soap is huge at 160 grams and looks like a regular papaya soap. If you have doubts about the authenticity of your soap, you can check out Alada's Official Thai Facebook page. They have a lot of tips on how to spot fake Alada.

My Experience

The soap is described as strong and not for people with sensitive skin. I totally see what they mean but I love it!

During my very first wash, I lathered up and left the suds as long as I can. My face felt tingly after 2 minutes (like when you leave kojic acid on for too long) so I washed it off first. For the rest of my body, it was around 6 minutes before I felt the stinging sensation.

If it was harsh, why do I love it?

Well, after washing away all the suds, I massaged my skin gently in a circular motion to exfoliate. I was only using my fingers but so much dead skin fell off! Too much information? Haha sorry but I was really surprised by the amount I was able to remove. I exfoliate regularly (at least once a week) but somehow, Alada managed to loosen up all the dead skin cells I never thought I had! Sofia's Glutathione Soap had similar exfoliating powers but I find Alada to be 3 times more potent.

Too much exfoliation is a bad thing so I only do the process above every three days. For the rest of the week, I leave the suds on my body for two minutes then rinse it off. I use a lesser amount of time for my face.

I'm not sure how to describe its smell - it's kinda weird but still tolerable. Don't worry because after rinsing it off, the smell goes away too. By the way, expect micropeeling even after removing all those dead skin cells. I apply lots of lotion after to keep my skin soft and moisturized.

Results

I used Alada once a day and I applied it very generously. The soap was a big bar but it only lasted a total of 15 days for me.
Alada Soap Review results
1st pic - Before using the soap (daylight, near window)
2nd pic - A few days after I finished the bar (bathroom lighting)
I suck at taking progress pics and this is not *exactly* how my skin looks like, but as you can see, I was tan and darker in my BEFORE pic. In real life, the reddish cast disappeared and I got at least 1.5 shades lighter. (Note: The AFTER pic above looks much lighter because of the lighting). I have obvious tan lines on my upper arms. It faded a little bit and it blends with my skin tone now. Not a bad progress for only two weeks of usage!

Verdict

Alada is great for exfoliation (three thumbs up for that 👍👍👍) and it also lightened my skin in just a short time. I think you'll definitely achieve a fairer skin tone if you use the soap continuously. Biggest downside is the price. It's expensive at 300PHP per bar but I think it's still worth trying. Because of fakes, make sure you buy from a trusted seller!

Overall, I highly recommend this soap. I'll definitely purchase this.

Skin Genie Dark Therapy Soap Review
What: Skin Genie Dark Therapy Soap, 135g
Price & Where: 200 PHP at Skin Genie
In this post, I'm gonna review another whitening soap from Skin Genie! The last one I tried from them didn't fare very well, so read on to see if this Dark Therapy Soap performed better!

Product Description:
🔹 Speedy Whitening 🔹 Moisturizing 🔹 Detoxifying

The description is short and to the point. I'm gonna look for whitening results (speedy or not) and gonna watch out for its moisturizing properties. Not sure though how I'll verify the detoxifying claims.
Skin Genie Dark Therapy Soap Review ingredients

Ingredients:
Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Aloe Vera Extract, Fruit Acids, Mushroom Extracts, Glycerine from Coconut, Activated Carbon

The fruit acids look like it's the only whitening ingredient? At least, according to this Cosdna analysis. The mushroom extracts is probably kojic acid from koji mushrooms, but I can't really tell, can I? It's too vague. I guess we'll never know.

Skin Genie Dark Therapy Soap Review
I cut it into three just in case it melts fast. It does not.

Experience

The soap doesn't melt fast. It lasted me for almost two months and I used it twice daily! It doesn't lather much. The resulting suds are tiny, like so:
Skin Genie Dark Therapy Soap Review
resulting lather
Skin Genie Dark Therapy Soap Review ph test
pH = 8.8
The pH is quite high, but for soaps, pH range between 7.0 - 10.0 pH is totally normal. Anyway, even with the 8.8 pH, this soap is surprisingly moisturizing. It did not make my skin feel dry or tight after. I also did not experience any breakouts or any allergic reaction.

Was It Effective in Whitening?

I'm not gonna mince words: this was not effective for me.

Skin Genie has solid products but I'm skipping this. Even after finishing the whole bar, my existing tan lines haven't faded and I haven't seen any signs of whitening. :/ Most whitening bars usually show results after using one bar; this one didn't so I won't repurchase. I dislike giving negative reviews but I really can't recommend this. 😭

If you are interested in trying the product for yourself, you can get it directly from Skin Genie (check out their SNS info below) or through online stores like BeautyMNL. Our results may vary.

Skin Genie Black Buster Brightening Soap Review
What: Skin Genie Black Buster Brightening Soap, 135g
Price: 150PHP at Skin Genie
Hello! This review features Skin Genie's Black Buster Brightening Soap. This was included inside the Holiday Box I bought last Christmas. I already finished the whole bar so here's my thoughts!

Product Description
🔹 Brightening 🔹 Anti Aging 🔹 Lightens Spots 🔹 Detoxifying 🔹 Moisturizing 🔹 Softening

From the name alone, I assume this is a whitening soap. There isn't much I can find out about the soap except for the description above.

Skin Genie Black Buster Brightening Soap Review
Ingredients
Licorice, Papaya, Calamansi, Tomato, Cucumber, Kojic Acid, Himalayan Salt, Goat's Milk, Rice Bran with Almonds, Kamias, Tawas

I'm pretty sure this is not the full list since the soap base is not even there. I tried matching ingredients to the functions (e.g. licorice is whitening, papaya is whitening, you get the drift) but what on earth makes this anti-aging or detoxifying? Perhaps the Himalayan Salt? Maybe it's the tawas lol just kidding 😁 Anyway, most of the stuff are well-known lightening ingredients. That's what really matters since this is a brightening soap.

Skin Genie Black Buster Brightening Soap Review

How to Use
Apply to damp skin and massage into a light foaming lather for 1-2 minutes to get the maximum effect. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Skin Genie Black Buster Brightening Soap Review
I divided the soap in case it melts fast~
I was able to cut through the soap with only a card. It is tougher than kojic soaps but definitely softer than regular commercial soaps. Anyway, there's really no need to divide it because it doesn't melt fast. It is fragranced but the scent is gentle and not overpowering. It doesn't smell fruity considering what it's made of.

Was It Effective?

In terms of being a soap, I can say yes. It is more sudsy than Skin Genie's Acne Warrior Soap. It cleans well and is not very drying. Also, you know how tawas is sticky and very difficult to remove? I did not have any issues like that from using the soap. I didn't break out or anything too. However, as a whitening soap, I'm not really impressed.

Like I wrote earlier, I have already finished the bar. I used it once (sometimes twice) a day for more than a month but I haven't seen any results. My face is darker than the rest of my body and I wish to correct that, but this did nothing for me. I also have t-shirt tan lines on my arms and they haven't lightened just one bit. I'm kinda disappointed because the ingredients looked very promising.

Will I Repurchase/Recommend It?

Skin Genie offers a lot of products that are hits for me (I absolutely adore their Black Mallows Scrub!) but since this soap did not work for me, I have to say NO. I can't recommend it.

If you are interested in trying the product for yourself, you can get it through Skin Genie's social pages (check their info below) or through online stores like BeautyMNL.

And that's it! Hope that helped! Let me know if you have any questions below~

Hello guys! Today, I'm gonna review another soap from the local Philippine brand called The Beauty Bask! I have tried their soap Paradiso before and this time, I'm gonna tell you my thoughts about their Mr. & Mrs. Androgynous Soap.

A little bit of info about the brand - The Beauty Bask Urban Organics is a multi-benefit skincare line made with ECOCERT-certified organic ingredients. They currently have four soap blocks: Himalayan Renegade, Mr. & Mrs. Androgynous, Paradiso and lastly, Amongst The Stars. They also have two beauty oils (available in 17ml or 30ml): Purveyor of the Lush and Chasing Daydreams.

Now, on to this review!

About Mr. & Mrs. Androgynous

What: Mr. & Mrs. Androgynous, 100g
Price & Where: Php 208 at The Beauty Bask
Product Description

Who says only women need good skin? Say hello to our MR. & MRS. ANDROGYNOUS #BeautyBlock! Even your significant other will enjoy using this on his face! Comes with a subtle minty cooling effect, those lovely specks are actually Chia Seeds and Australian Tea Tree Leaves!♥

Mr. & Mrs. Androgynous is an anti-bacterial and potent PH balancing beauty block in a golden tinge speckled with lush herbs + a minty scent. It has a subtle cooling effect brought about by its natural and certified organic ingredients. Clinically proven actives target irritations and help address inflammations while working at a cellular level to nourish your skin as protection and repair from pollution, sun and stress. This energizing beauty block can be used daily and whenever you want to cool down after a workout. It's also perfect for sharing with your significant other to teach him a thing or two on skin fitness!

Ingredients List

Pure vegetable glycerin base, Tsubaki, Chia Seeds, Melaleuca, Sunflower, Marigold, Calendula, Mint, Sage

Here's a Cosdna analysis of the ingredients. According to the analysis, the ingredients are all safe to use. Of course, don't use it if you are allergic to any of the ingredients regardless of the safety rating.

Instructions

Lather with water between hands and apply generously to face and /or body. Lather directly on skin for mild exfoliation. Leave in a little longer if your skin is not sensitive. Rinse off. Smells good enough to be sniffed on all day and gentle enough to be used as needed daily.

First Impressions

Like Paradiso, the packaging is very simple. The soap was neatly packed in plastic with a sticker label. Manufacturing and expiry dates are stamped on the plastic.

Batch number (?), and Manufacturing and Expiry dates.
the Beauty Block
The soap itself is a square block with chia seeds and tea tree leaves pressed on its surface.

My Experience

This is a good soap. It performed well against dirt and grime. I felt clean and refreshed afterwards. It smells really minty too. I like the scent of Mr. & Mrs. Androgynous better than Paradiso since it somehow uplifts my mood. Using this in the morning quickly perks me up.

The chia seeds on the surface acts as an exfoliant. However, since it is only pressed on the surface, the seeds naturally fell off after about two weeks.
If you are wondering about the size
The soap looks small (it is smaller than a MAC bullet!) but the whole bar lasted for more than a month. It lathers well so you don't have to use a lot. From the Beauty Bask's description, this is recommended for normal skin / combination skin. I agree since this did not make my skin feel dry or squeaky.

Will I Repurchase / Recommend?

This is supposed to Energize + Balance + Rejuvenate. I think they did well on those fronts. I honestly like this better than Paradiso! However, I probably won't repurchase since it's quite pricey for me. I will use it again if I can get my hands on it but for now, I wanna explore the other soaps our local market has to offer.

That's it for my review! Let me know if you have questions. :D

Beauty White Vampire Whitening Soap Review
What: Beauty White Vampire Whitening Soap v.2, 85g
Price & Where: 85.00 PHP, from a Shopee seller
Hi, guys! I told you in a previous post that I hauled some Thai products through Shopee. My first Thai product review was a disaster but, whatever! Nothing can stop me from trying out this Vampire Whitening Soap from the brand Beauty White. This is another Shopee best-seller and of course, I'm a curious cat and I just have to try it myself.

Without further ado, here's my review!

About the Product & Packaging

Beauty White Vampire Whitening Soap Review
The back of the packaging
First of all, the soap is housed in this black & red vampire-inspired box. It is holographic and twinkles if you move it to and fro. The stuff on the box is written mostly in Thai, except for the ingredients list.

The soap inside is protected by plastic. It is smaller than I expected, being only 85 grams.
Beauty White Vampire Whitening Soap Review
The soap has this vampire logo imprinted into it.
Ingredients (from the box):
Ascorbic Acid, Citrus Auranium Amara Fruit Extract, Cocos Nucifera Fruit Oil, Fragrance, Glycerin, Olea Europaea Fruit Oil, Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tocopheryl Acetate, Water

The product description (from the seller) says this has rose oil extracts to help stimulate the skin cells and blood circulation resulting to healthy skin, lycopene from tomatoes to maintain skin's youthful appearance and soft like baby skin, arbutin that inhibits melanin causing freckles and dark spots, and glutathione, vitamin C, vitamin E and vitamin B3  to help skin look healthy, luminous, even when out in the sun.

Except for Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) and Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate), I don't see the stuff mentioned above in the actual ingredients list. What gives? So deceptive! Always read your ingredients list, guys! The soap indeed smells like roses except, like I said, rose oil extract is not in the actual ingredient list. It's probably the added fragrance. -___-

My Experience

With Vampire in the name and packaging, it's obvious I'm gonna be a vampire after using this, right? Just kidding. Vampire pale, perhaps. I'm not really looking for super-whitening but I want all the help I can get to even out my skintone. Let's see if this works.

Beauty White Vampire Whitening Soap lather review
soap lather and the color
This soap lathers really well! Just a few rubs and I was able to get the pic above. The soap suds were tinged pink from the soap's color but it went away after foaming it up more. I left it on my skin for 2-4 minutes then rinsed it off. It's good in removing dirt and grime. I felt clean after washing the suds off.

A downside I noticed is that this soap is not compatible with Maxipeel (Tretinoin + Hydroquinone). I'm using Maxipeel Exfoliant #2 (which I got it from my Summer Girl Saladbox) on my face and neck.

During the first time I used this, I applied the soap all over my face and body. My face and neck felt itchy all day even if I rinsed it off. I stopped using it on the Maxipeel areas and the irritation stopped. If you are on tretinoin or hydroquinone, I don't recommend using this at the same time.

Another downside is that this soap melts really fast. I divided the soap into two and only use it once a day. Despite that, the whole bar only lasted for 2 weeks. That's a really short time! Maybe that's why I don't see any changes in my skin tone. It didn't give me the vampire skin it promised me. Not one bit! Like, nothing at all! Yikes.

Will I Recommend/Repurchase This?

Honestly, NO. I'm not impressed. The downsides far outweighed the very few positives it had. Sure, I used it for a very short period (only 2 weeks!) but I have previously tried a soap that really delivered results within the same amount of time! This vampire soap pales in comparison.

I have a few more purchases from Shopee. Fingers crossed they work because what I tried so far are quite disappointing. Have you tried this product? Tell me below if it performed miracles for you! Haha!

SkinGenie Acne Warrior Soap Review

Hi, guys! If you read my last review, you'd know my skin purged a lot due to a product I'm using. I expected the pimples to crop up but it's kinda exhausting to have pimples on your face, right? I want the purging process to finish faster. And then I remember I have this Acne Warrior Soap in my stash so I got it out. Such a perfect time to test this!

Just a short intro: Skin Genie is a local Philippine brand offering a range of whitening and anti-aging products. They claim their products are safe and gentle even for the most sensitive skin. They are known for their ACV-based products but they have other lines as well. You can check out their selection here. I love their Black Fluffy Mallows Scrub!

About the Soap

SkinGenie Acne Warrior Soap Review
What: Skin Genie Acne Warrior Soap, 135g

That's honestly a lot of claims. I'm not expecting much tbh but if this soap clears up my skin in just a few days, I'm gonna be so impressed.

The packaging is simple and minimal. Just a plastic cover with a cardboard label. On one side is the directions for use, while the other side has the list of ingredients.

SkinGenie Acne Warrior Soap Review

Ingredients:
Saponified Oils of Coconut, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Love Plant Oil, Calendula Extract, Neem Oil Extract, Fruit Acids, Apple Extract, Glycerin from Coconut

I always clog and breakout out from coconut oil, palm oil and olive oil so it seems counterintuitive to me to even include these ingredients in an acne-fighting soap. I only have a general idea of how the soap-making process works but hopefully, the oils got saponified and transformed.

About the other ingredients, the soap seems well-formulated. The pimple-fighting ingredient here is the Neem Oil Extract. Glycerin and calendula is for moisturization while the fruit acids is for exfoliation. Here's a CosDNA analysis of the ingredients.

Olive oil and calendula are tagged as potential acne triggers. The acne rating is low on CosDNA but each of us reacts to ingredients differently so make sure to do your own research first and don't use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.

First Impressions

First of all, the soap smells good! There's no fragrance listed so I guess the smell comes from the plant extracts itself. The scent is very mild and subtle.

SkinGenie Acne Warrior Soap Review
I estimated this cut will last me 7 days or so.
I only cut a small portion because I think two weeks is a reasonable amount of time to test it's effectiveness. Breakouts normally heal within one to two weeks for me so this soap must be able to shorten that time.

It doesn't bubble a lot. I only managed to get the pic above by using the soap very generously. The resulting lather is soft and smooth and it's very effective in cleaning. It totally removed all oils on my face. Make sure to moisturize because it can be drying.

pH test result = between 7.0-7.5 pH
Low pH cleansers (between 4.2 - 5.6 pH) are usually recommended so it won't disrupt our skin's acid mantle. (Read here why.) However, I did a little bit of digging and found out that in soapmaking, the recommended pH for the soap to be safe is between 7 to 10. As you can see above, the pH of this soap is somewhere between 7-7.5. Since the pH is unavoidable, I suggest using a skin balancing toner after.

I used it on my face and body every morning and night. I expected the portion I cut to last about 7 days, but it actually lasted more than two weeks! It doesn't melt fast.

So... Results?

This is the breakout in my right cheek. See the four little pimples in a line? It looks like I got a constellation on my face 😂

Day 1 - pic taken in the afternoon. Used the soap at night (1st use)
Day 2 - pic taken at night (3rd use)
By the second day, you can clearly see the improvement in my skin condition. My pimples were a lot calmer and they have shrunk in size. I didn't take any pics of the third day, but the pimples were healing nicely.

Like I said earlier, this soap can be drying and sure enough, during the fourth day, there was some peeling going on. I decided to help a little bit by using a pore brush to exfoliate all the dead skin cells. So far so good, right? However, what I did next is very idiotic. I applied/wiped Secret Key Lemon Peeling Pad on top! *cringe*

I have already physically exfoliated and by using the peeling pad (chemical exfoliation), my skin was not happy. It immediately reacted by getting terribly itchy! I tried to bear it for a few seconds but it was awful. I washed it off my face as quickly as I can. Physical or chemical, don't over-exfoliate! Trust me! Just look at the damage below.

Day 4 - shiny, dry skin
Day 5 - the damage can be seen better here
The pics are taken immediately after washing. My skin looks shiny but it is very dry, no oil at all. Tiny bumps also surfaced. Looks like I burned my face, yikes. I pampered my skin afterwards with lots of hydrating layers. The damage is more apparent the next day. It is very rough to the touch. Not Skin Genie's fault but I'm just showing you why my progress is back to zero. :/

Day 6 - new tiny bumps
Day 8 - the area is already healed
My skin is still irritated on Day 6 and you can see tiny new bumps that wasn't there before. Good thing the original 4 pimples already healed. It left scars. 😑 I just continued using the soap twice a day. By Day 8, all the pimples were gone and I just need to deal with the aftermath.

Effective? Hell yeah! If I didn't mess up, I bet the whole process will take shorter than 8 days. The pimples shrunk and healed within 2-3 days after use. Here's a side by side comparison:

SkinGenie Acne Warrior Soap results pimple

Will I Repurchase/Recommend This Soap?

Yes! I'm gonna use this again whenever I'm purging or have breakouts. The price is very reasonable and it definitely works for me. If you have acne, I think this is worth trying out but please, please proceed with caution. Our results may vary.

By the way, ThankYourSkin compiled a list of sneaky things that may be causing you acne. It includes all possible acne triggers I can think of (from diet to skincare, makeup, clothes, environment, etc)! It's a great resource to check if you feel like you already did everything.

Hope this review helped! Tried this soap already? What are your thoughts on it?
