Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask Review

Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask
What:  Innisfree Volcanic Pore Clay Mask, 100ml
Price: 710 PHP at Innisfree website
Hi, everyone! When I got into Korean skincare almost a year ago, I always see this Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask (or its sister variant Super Jeju Volcanic) on popular and highly-recommended product lists. I wanted to try and see what the hype is all about so when Althea included this inside one their past beauty boxes (Pore Care 101), I immediately snatched it up!

I'm halfway through the tub now. I'm using it once or twice a week so I think it's finally time for a review. Let's go!

About The Product

This clay mask contains volcanic scoria from Jeju. Volcanic scoria is a pure and fairly rare ingredient formed from lava as it cools after a volcanic eruption. Innisfree claims it has a powerful sebum-absorbing capacity and washes away impurities while moisturizing skin. Interesting.

The mask claims that it will (1) remove sebum (2) brighten skin and (3) treat blemishes. It is supposed to be soothing and is free from mineral oil, animal-originated ingredients, artificial fragrances, and imidazolidinyl urea. We'll see.

Ingredients:
Water, Butylene Glycol, Titanium Dioxide, Silica, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Trehalose, Volcanic Ash (Jeju volcanic cluster), Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Bentonite, Zinc Oxide (CI 77947), Polysorbate 60, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract, Opuntia Coccinellifera Fruit Extract, Orchid Extract, Camellia Japonica Leaf Extract, Cryptomeria Japonica Leaf Extract, Bambusa Vulgaris Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Kaolin, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, PVP, Dextrin, PEG-100 Stearate, Sorbitan Stearate, Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Lactic Acid, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Iron Oxide (CI 7741)

Good to see the Jeju Volcanic Ash within the first 10 ingredients. Isn't it annoying if a product is named after an ingredient only to see it last on the list? Anyway, according to this Cosdna analysis, some of the ingredients can be acne triggers or may cause irritation. Better check if you are sensitive or allergic to anything.

Four sides of the box packaging (click for full size)
The product came inside a simple cardboard box. Most of the writings are in Hangul but one side is in English for international users. Bless! There's no seal on the box or the jar itself but I think you'll definitely notice if the product has been tampered with or not.

Note: the product should be used within 12 months after opening.

The jar is made of strong, durable plastic with a tin lid. It has a plastic barrier thingy on top for protection.

pic taken when I just opened the mask. It is almost full to the brim!
The container is smaller than I expected but 100g of clay is actually quite a lot! I've been using this for two months now and I still have about two-thirds full.

I've read reviews stating the clay hardens after 3 months so my solution is to decant to smaller containers! No more unnecessary exposure to air plus it's more hygienic that way. I usually end up using my fingers because Innisfree didn't include a spatula.

Almost halfway through! I use a spatula to decant but it still gets messy.
How to Use:
After cleansing and refining skin with toner, gently smooth it over the entire face or the parts where you need it. Avoid the eyes and lip area. Rinse it off with lukewarm water after 15 minutes. Use 1-2 times weekly.

Sample routine whenever I use this: Cleanser - Toner - Clay Mask - Toner - Essence - Serum - Sheet Masks - Moisturizer

Before and After Drying (click to see full size)
The clay is soft and has a consistent creamy texture. It has no added fragrance. It straight up smells like clay but it's not an in-your-face scent. It's barely noticeable after application. The mask is very easy to spread and dries within 15 minutes.

By the way, see the lumpy upper area of the pics above? That's what will happen if the clay hardens. I forgot to put a cap on my decant so the mask dried a bit. I just added water to soften it again.

The changes are minimal before and after the mask dries. It is still the same ashy grayish color. I noticed the clay settled into the lines of my hand after drying but it didn't make my skin feel tight or stiff. I sometimes leave it on for more than the recommended time but the dried clay didn't absorb oils from my nose.

After massaging the dried clay.
The clay is surprisingly easy to clean. I just wet my face with water, massage my skin in a circular motion to loosen up the dried clay and after that, the mask rinses off immediately! I apply some toner after and the cotton pad is always clean. No clay residue!

Results

Again, the main claims of this product is to (1) remove sebum (2) brighten skin and (3) treat blemishes.

My face do look brighter and oil-free whenever I use this product. My pores look a lot tinier and I notice that I don't oil up like usual. However, I'm not really sure about the mask's claim to treat blemishes. I tried using this whenever I feel a zit coming up but eh, I don't think it does anything to zits. Is it just me? Anyway, I didn't breakout or get any allergic reaction from using this.

Clay masks can be very drying but this one is definitely not! My skin feels so soft and moisturized after. This is also good for exfoliation. I have some peeling skin on my face from a healing pimple and it got removed after I washed the mask off. Hello, smooth skin!

Final Say: Will I Repurchase?

Yes! I definitely recommend getting this mask. It worked for me. There's a lot of product inside plus it's cheaper too than most of Innisfree's clay masks (like the Innisfree capsules which are like 90 PHP for only 10ml). Overall, this is an effective yet affordable product. I think it's worth buying again.

The regular price is 710 PHP according to Innisfree PH but you can get it for less on some stores (e.g. Shopee). Innisfree has another variant called Super Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask and they say it's better for treating pores! I might try that the next time.

Anyway, I'll end my review here. Hope this helped~ Let me know if you have any questions!
