Giga Shampoo Bar Review

Giga Shampoo Bar Review
What: Giga Shampoo Bar, 100g
Price and Where I Bought It: Php 199 at Lazada, (bundled with Giga AHA Soap)
Ever since my positive experience using an organic shampoo bar (see my B&Soap review), I've been looking for more similar products. I saw this Giga Shampoo Bar when I was browsing through Lazada's website and decided to give it a try.

So... here's my review!

About the Product

It's my first time hearing about Giga and after a quick research, it looks like it's a Philippine brand! It's always nice to discover locally-made items. #tatakpinoy

The company is established in 1999 and now, their product line includes natural soaps, spa, aromatherapy, natural therapy, pet care, and baby care. According to them, 98 percent of ingredients found in GIGA products are plant-based (Natural) and 90 percent are locally-sourced within the Philippines. Interesting.

The packaging is very simple. Just a box with all the standard information. Inside, the soap is protected by a plastic sheet.

How to Use: Firmly hold soap and rub it all over your wet body. Rinse well.

Ingredients: Virgin Coconut Oil, Aqua, Sodium Hydroxide, Olive Oil, Rosemary Extract, Patchouli Oil, Sodium Silicate, Lavender Oil, Tetrasodium EDTA, Coconut Milk, BHT

According to their description, this shampoo bar is hand-crafted, sulfate-free, paraben-free, and all-natural. The base is made from virgin coconut oil.

Here is CosDNA's ingredient analysis for potential irritants. Sodium Hydroxide and Sodium Silicate has a safety rating of 3 while BHT has a safety warning of 6. Regardless of the ratings, don't use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.

My Experience

my hair before using Giga
Even with no sulfates, this soap lathered up very well. After I rinsed the suds off, my hair felt really dry and stripped of all oils and dirt, just like my experience from using B&Soap

However, unlike B&Soap, my hair did not feel soft, smooth and frizz-free AFTER drying. I kept using it everyday for two weeks hoping my hair would adjust, but it didn't.

If you're looking for a shampoo that will remove product buildup (and everything) off, then this will help you a lot. However, I don't recommend this as an everyday shampoo. After the end of my two-week test period, my hair looks worse than when I started. The shine was gone and my hair looks very dull. :/

I decided to use the rest as a body soap. It smells like Perla mixed with something minty - probably the patchouli oil. I'm not a fan of the Perla smell but it gives you that squeaky-clean feeling - perfect if you're feeling grimy and want to get rid of the sensation.

Will I Recommend/Repurchase This?

As a shampoo, I don't recommend it. As a body soap, I think it's okay. I probably won't repurchase this again since I don't love it enough. Will still try other Giga products.
