The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam Review
WHAT: The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser, 150 ml
PRICE & WHERE I GOT IT: 300 Php at Althea PH
Hi, guys! Welcome me back to the blogging world! 😍💕 For the last few months, I got too busy with my real life duties but here I am now ready to serve you again with high-quality beauty blog posts. Charot! Hahaha. Just kidding, pagbigyan 😂

Anyway, today's feature is about The Face Shop's Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser. I've been using it for more than 2 months now. Here's what I think about it!

ABOUT THE PRODUCT

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam Review
The tube has a convenient flip cap.
First of all, the foaming cleanser comes in a 150 ml sturdy plastic tube. When I first got it, it was just covered with plastic, no box. The mouth of the tube is safely protected by a foil seal. The tube is quite large, I don't think it's conducive for traveling.

According to The Face Shop's website, this is a brightening, deep-foaming cleanser that effectively cleanses away makeup as the whipped cream texture gently envelops the skin. It is formulated with natural cleansing agents including Rice Extract and Soapwort Extract, leaving skin looking clear and bright while also providing gentle moisturisation.

Ingredients:
Water/Eau, Myristic Acid, Glycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Glycol Distearate, Lauric Acid, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide Mea, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Saponaria Officinalis Leaf Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Sodium Chloride, Divinyldimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, C12-13 Pareth-23, C12-13 Pareth-3, Hexylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, Blue 1 (CI 42090), Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Red 4 (CI 14700), Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Parfum/Fragrance

How To Use:
Lather up the foaming cleanser with water and massage onto the face with a circular motion. Rinse with lukewarm water and then with cold water as a finishing touch.

Can I mention the rice? 😆 For a product named after rice, it's quite unfortunate to see it in the middle of the ingredient list. Anyway, here's the Cosdna's analysis of the ingredients. Most of them are surfactants and emulsifiers, meaning they are the stuff that takes away all the oil, dirt and grime off your face. There's glycerin and a few emollients mixed in but we'll see how it performs and affects my skin. Note that I have normal-oily skin combination.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam Review
texture of the cleanser

The cleansing foam is pearly white and has a thick and creamy texture. It has added fragrance to it and while not overpowering, I would love it if TFS toned it down a little bit more. If you're like me who prefers scentless stuff over artificially-scented ones, then this may not be for you. I can't detect any rice smell too.
The cleanser in action. Lots of lather!
With all those surfactants and emulsifiers as ingredients, I'm not surprised that this cleanser produces a lot of foam. And I mean A LOT! Even a tiny pea-sized amount is enough to cover my entire face! The lather is soft and luxurious - I like how it feels when I'm massaging it in. Just a downside, I noticed that if I used more than a pea-sized blob, it can be very stripping. I can literally feel my face being squeaky, tight and dry since all the oils are washed away.

We Love Tests, Am I Right?

pH Test
The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam Review pH Test
pH Test Results = 8.4 pH
On my first test, I mixed a large blob of cleanser with a little bit of water on my hands. I tested the ph of the resulting lather and it's a high 8.8 pH. I tested it again using a smaller pea-sized amount (what I normally use), and the pH result got down a little bit to 8.4 pH which is still a high number in my opinion. No wonder I thought it was harsh! Note: this is the number that comes up whenever I do subsequent tests.

If a cleanser leaves your skin dry and squeaky, it usually means the product has a high pH. Cleansers should have a pH close to our skin's natural pH (5.5pH). If not, you're gonna risk disrupting your skin's moisture barrier which in turn, will make you more prone to breakouts. If you're gonna use this cleanser, make sure to use a skin-balancing toner afterwards to bring your skin's pH back to normal! Also, use a moisturizer! 😆

Cleansing Test
makeup VS cleanser lol
I used every type of makeup I have (waterproof/non-waterproof eyeliners, mascara, lipstick, makeup, blush, foundation) and this pretty much got rid of it all except for the Colourpop liquid lippie. Pretty good cleansing power if you ask me.

Regarding its brightening effects, this made my skin look a lot brighter immediately after washing and drying my face. However, the effect is temporary and does not last long. In my experience, the glow usually goes away whenever I layer more products on top. Anyway, don't really expect this to whiten/lighten dark spots. In the K-Beauty world, brightening does not equal whitening. Aside from the initial glow, I see no lightening effects at all when it comes to blemishes.

FINAL VERDICT

Will I buy this again? Probably not once I emptied my tube. It does the job but I'm still on the lookout for newer, better products.

Will I continue using this? Yes. It cleans well, I experienced no breakouts and while it has a high pH, that can be remedied by using a skin-balancing toner.

Do I recommend this? With 150 ml of product in the tube, I'm sure budget-conscious beauty lovers will like this. A little goes a long way and I'm certain that the tube is enough for more than 4-6 months of use. I'm two months in and I'm not even halfway through! Do take note that this can be quite drying. This may not be for people with dry skin.

If you wanna try this product, I got mine for 300 Php at Althea. If you're new to Althea, you can use my referral link to get 200 Php off your first order! You can also try visiting your local The Face Shop store. I saw this being sold for 350 Php.

And that's it for my review. Hope this helped! Let me know if you have questions or suggestions on what I should review next!
